Lens expansion joints
"Kompenz" offers two types of lens expansion joints: round and rectangular cross section.
Lens expansion joints of round cross section
One-layer lens expansion joints are made of lenses and semi-lenses welded in the top of waves.
They are quite hard for lateral and angular displacements due to material thickness of 3-10 mm applied for lens production. This type of expansion joints is widely used for compensating of axial displacements in high operating pressure and temperature systems. Lens expansion joints by “Kompenz” are mainly applied in oil-refining, chemical and gas industries for compensating thermal lengthening of heat exchange and gas turbine equipment cases.
The possibility to change lenses geometry allows producing “Kompenz” lens expansion joints with inner diameter up to 4000 mm applying specific steel and alloys to achieve required operating parameters.
Types of round lens expansion joints fixation:
- for welding (RR) is used for rigid fixation of the expansion joint to the pipeline of round or other cross section. It is fixed by welding of expansion joint end pieces to the pipeline ends that are of similar cross section and wall thickness, or by welding of lens with smaller thickness to elements of pipeline accessories. This type of fixation is the most popular and it provides hermetic joint of compensators.
- - flange (FF, VV) is used for rigid fixation of the expansion joint to the pipeline counter flange. This type of fixation provides detachable joint of pipeline elements and their quick replacement, but it requires interflange packing control.

The manufacturer reserves the right to make changes to the expansion joint design.
Depending on the requirements of compensation, lens expansion joints can consist of one, two, three or more lenses.
Lens expansion joints of rectangular cross section
Rectangular lens expansion joints by “Kompenz” are used for compensation of all types of displacements (axial, lateral, angular) in steam, gas and air pipes of rectangular cross section. It is possible to design expansion joints for wide temperature range applying modern facing material.
Lenses of expansion joints are made in the form of V- or U-shaped wave.
Flow cross section and connection dimensions are customer oriented. Material of construction: stainless or carbon steel.
Types of rectangular lens expansion joints fixation:
- - for welding (RR) is used for rigid fixation of the expansion joint to the pipeline of round or other cross section. It is fixed by welding of expansion joint end pieces to the pipeline ends that are of similar cross section and wall thickness, or by welding of lens with smaller thickness to elements of pipeline accessories. This type of fixation is the most popular and it provides hermetic joint of expansion joints.
- - flange (FF, VV) is used for rigid fixation of the expansion joint to the pipeline counter flange. This type of fixation provides detachable joint of pipeline elements and their quick replacement, but it requires interflange packing control.
